    " ...Brouwer uses a freely tonal language for her piece (Symphony No. 1), which is marked by a clear, experienced handling of materials.  Set in three continuous movements, the approximately 16-minute piece opens with a lyrical solo for oboe, (which was) handled beautifully by Cynthia Watson.

    ...The orchestra sounded comfortable with the work, which has an appealing directness, and the brass section made a special impact with a richly orchestrated section that treats the players as a choir.  Brouwer was present to take a bow."
